The included dust bag: what 30 grams of storage actually protects

Short answer: every Jelkin 25 ships with a dust bag — about 30 g of included storage, not a paid accessory. Its job is to protect 12 mm faux-shearling pile from crushing and lint while the bag lives in a closet or a suitcase. It is the cheapest insurance against the one thing that ruins shearling: being squashed.
What the dust bag is for
Faux shearling's enemy is compression and friction. Left loose in a suitcase, the 12 mm pile mats against harder objects. The dust bag keeps the bag's shape and surface apart from everything else.
| Threat | What the dust bag does |
|---|---|
| Pile matting | separates the shearling from hard surfaces |
| Lint transfer | encloses the fluffy surface |
| Shape loss in storage | holds the 25 × 17 × 14 form loosely |
It is included, not upsold
Dust bags are often a luxury add-on. Ours is in the box. At ~30 g it costs us almost nothing to ship and saves the bag from the single most common "it arrived flat" complaint. For a bag whose entire identity is a 12 mm pile, protecting that pile in transit is not a nice-to-have.
Travel versus storage
You do not fly with the dust bag — it stays home, which is why it is not in the 640 g worn weight. You use it between trips. A bag worn weekly and stored properly keeps its shearling look for years; the same bag crammed bare into a suitcase goes flat in one season.

Should you buy the Jelkin 25 for this?
The dust bag is ~30 g of included storage, not a paid accessory, and its job is to stop 12 mm of pile from matting against harder objects in a closet or suitcase. If you are buying a shearling bag you intend to keep, that is worth having in the box. It is also the reason to store the bag loosely rather than crammed — a bag worn weekly and stored properly keeps its look for years.

- Check whether the dust bag is included or an add-on. Ours ships in the box.
- Store the bag in it between trips. Compression and friction are what flatten shearling pile.
- Do not fly with it. It stays home, which is why it is not part of the 640 g worn weight.
- Never pack the bare bag against hard objects in a suitcase. One season of that goes flat.
