Does a 25 cm bag fit a Nintendo Switch? Measured edge by edge

· CloudFlirty· 6 min read

Jelkin 25 Cloud in Cricket Green — boxed and ready to give

Yes — but only just, and only if you angle it. A Nintendo Switch with the Joy-Con attached measures about 239 × 102 × 14 mm (23.9 × 10.2 × 1.4 cm / 9.4 × 4.0 × 0.6 in). The usable space inside a 25 cm Jelkin Cloud Bag is about 23 × 15 × 12 cm (9.1 × 5.9 × 4.7 in), because the external 25 × 17 × 14 cm (9.8 × 6.7 × 5.5 in) has to give up roughly a centimetre per side to padding and lining. Laid flat with its long edge running straight across the base, the console is about 0.9 cm too long. Turn it onto the diagonal and it drops in with a couple of centimetres in hand. Slide it into a rigid zip case first and the answer changes to no.

External 25 × 17 × 14 cm is not the number you pack against

The 25 × 17 × 14 cm (9.8 × 6.7 × 5.5 in) figure is the outside of the bag, measured at its widest points with the padding at full loft. Inside that you lose the quilted wall, the lining and the seam allowance, which is why every measurement in this article uses about 23 × 15 × 12 cm (9.1 × 5.9 × 4.7 in) as the space you actually have. Any solid object has to fit three edges into those three numbers. If you want to check the method on your own bag, our measuring guide explains how to take a usable measurement rather than an optimistic one.

There is one useful wildcard. The Jelkin 25 is a soft padded bag with a structured opening, not a rigid box, so the sides will give a little when something is slightly over. ‘A little’ means a few millimetres, not a centimetre.

The Switch, measured edge by edge

The table below uses the publicly listed dimensions for the two current dockable models, plus the two obvious alternative ways to carry a Switch. All figures are rounded to the nearest millimetre on the published spec and converted at 1 cm = 0.39 in.

Configuration Dimensions (cm / in) Against 23 × 15 × 12 cm Verdict
Console with Joy-Con attached 23.9 × 10.2 × 1.4 / 9.4 × 4.0 × 0.6 0.9 cm too long flat; about 2 cm spare on the diagonal Yes, angled
OLED model with Joy-Con attached 24.2 × 10.2 × 1.4 / 9.5 × 4.0 × 0.6 1.2 cm too long flat; about 1.7 cm spare diagonally Yes, angled
Console alone, Joy-Con removed 17.3 × 10.2 × 1.4 / 6.8 × 4.0 × 0.6 5.7 cm of width left over Yes, flat
Switch Lite 20.8 × 9.1 × 1.4 / 8.2 × 3.6 × 0.6 2.2 cm of width left over Yes, flat
Console in a rigid zip case about 27 × 13 × 5 / 10.6 × 5.1 × 2.0 4 cm too long, 1 cm too tall No

Why the diagonal rescues it

A 23 × 12 cm base has a diagonal of about 25.9 cm, and the 23 × 15 cm side panel has a diagonal of about 27.5 cm. Both are comfortably longer than 23.9 cm. In practice you slide the console in at roughly thirty degrees so one top corner sits towards the back of the bag and the opposite corner tucks down beside the front wall, then let it settle.

The cost of that rotation is floor space. A Switch placed diagonally occupies the middle of the bag rather than one side, so your phone and wallet end up on top of it instead of beside it. If that bothers you, take the Joy-Con off: the 17.3 cm screen unit then sits flat with 5.7 cm to spare, and the two controllers go in the gap.

What still fits alongside it

Alongside the console, the realistic remaining load is small flat things. In our honest capacity test this combination worked without the mouth straining:

  • a large phone, flat on top of the console or slipped down the side
  • a cardholder or a slim wallet rather than a long zip-around one
  • a short charging cable and a small power bank, as covered in the power bank and cables test
  • sunglasses in a soft pouch, not a hard case

What does not join the party: a hard glasses case, a full-size water bottle or a second console. The 25 cm bag carries a tablet-class object plus a handful of small things, and that is the honest ceiling. We measured the 25 cm Cloud in noir; every colour shares the same 25 × 17 × 14 cm body.

Cases, sleeves and bigger handhelds

Protection is where the plan usually falls apart. A fabric sleeve adds only a millimetre or two and the console still fits diagonally. A rigid zip case with a moulded shell typically adds 2–3 cm on every axis, which pushes the length to about 27 cm and the height to about 13 cm — past the usable width, and awkward against the 15 cm height. If you must use one, the case goes in your hands or a bigger bag, not in a 25 cm one.

Larger handhelds are simply out — a Steam Deck-class device is around 30 cm long, and that wants a dedicated case with its own strap.

Console dimensions are the publicly listed figures for the standard and OLED models, rounded to the nearest millimetre, and vary slightly between hardware revisions and between regions. Cases are given as typical, since every case differs. CloudFlirty is not affiliated with Nintendo.

Frequently asked questions

Does the OLED Switch fit in a 25 cm bag?

Yes, on the same diagonal. The OLED model with Joy-Con attached is about 242 mm long, so it is roughly 0.3 cm longer than the standard model and leaves about 1.7 cm of diagonal slack instead of 2 cm. It is the last size up that still works.

Can I keep the Joy-Con attached?

Yes, and you probably should. Removing them makes the console 17.3 cm long, which fits flat and frees a lot of floor space, but loose Joy-Con are easy to lose in a soft bag and the rails pick up lint.

Will a hard carry case fit as well?

No. A rigid shell case typically grows the package to about 27 × 13 × 5 cm, which is past the 23 cm usable width. A thin fabric sleeve is the compromise: it protects the screen from keys without changing the footprint.

Is a padded bag safe for the screen?

Better than a hard interior, because the walls absorb knocks, but it is not a camera bag. Slip the console into a sleeve so the screen is not facing bare keys.

Can I take a Switch in a 25 cm bag when I fly?

Yes, and it is a good use of the space. The console goes in the bag, the bag goes under the seat, and the cables stay with it. our light-travel list has the rest of the packing list.
