What Actually Fits in a 25: An Honest Capacity Test

Someone asked us last week whether a 25 is a real bag or a very expensive purse. Fair question. The honest answer is that it depends entirely on what you carry, so we stopped guessing and emptied one out on the table.

The everyday load, item by item

We started with the things that leave the house with everyone: phone, wallet, keys, earphones. All four went in without any negotiation. That is the baseline, and a 25 clears it with room to spare.

  • Phone — any current size, laid flat or stood on its side.
  • Wallet — a full-size one, not the folded card sleeve you pretend to prefer.
  • Keys — a normal ring with a car fob on it.
  • Earphones — the case, not the loose buds.

At this point the bag is comfortably full but not straining. The turn-lock closes without you having to push. That matters more than it sounds: a bag you have to wrestle shut is a bag you stop reaching for.

The iPad Mini question

This is the one everyone expects to fail. It does not. An iPad Mini goes in, lying flat against the back panel, with the everyday load still on top of it. It is not a laptop bag and it never claimed to be — but if your work lives on a tablet and a phone, the 25 handles the commute.

What does not fit, and why that is fine

Here is where the honest part comes in. A full-size laptop does not fit. A 500ml water bottle does not fit alongside everything else — it fits alone, which is not useful. A hardcover book does not fit flat.

Small is not a compromise. It is the whole idea. A 25 is the bag you take when you have decided what matters.

The sellier construction underneath the shearling is what makes this work. The bag keeps its shape when it is half empty, which is most of the time. Soft bags collapse and look sad by four in the afternoon. This one does not.

The two-bag trick

If you want the look but need more room sometimes, the answer is not a bigger bag — it is two. Two Jelkin 25 Cloud bags run $169 against $99 for one, and three run $249. We are independent, so there is no logo tax in that number, and there is a 30-day full refund if you get it wrong.

Most people who end up with two use them for different jobs rather than at the same time: one for the working week, one that only comes out at the weekend. All eleven colours are the same price, so the second one can be the colour you wanted but talked yourself out of.

How it carries

The strap detaches, which sounds like a small thing until you are in a restaurant and want the bag on the seat beside you instead of hanging off the chair. The interior is lined, so nothing catches on the way in or out. The palladium-tone turn-lock clicks shut — you hear it, and you stop checking.

So is it a real bag?

If your day is a phone, a wallet, keys, earphones and a tablet, yes. If your day is a laptop, a water bottle and a lunch, no, and no small bag would be.

Capacity is the least interesting thing about a bag and the thing people worry about most. Once you know the answer, you can get on with the part that is actually fun — picking the colour. Biscuit is the one we would start with. If it is a gift, the gift view wraps it properly.

Eleven colours, one price, and free tracked shipping with duties included to 60+ countries. That is the whole pitch.
